Unzipped in Tulum

It pays to have good social skills. Joe Coppolo, Director of Social Media at advertising agency The 88, has a knack for making friends online and IRL—the kind of friends who invite him over to their house in Elba for two weeks (nbd). Just now he was down in Tulum for a belated birthday getaway—here’s how he (and his friends) did it.

  1. I was trying to pack light for once, so sticking to a few solid basics: Everlane white oxfordOrlebar Brown bathing suit, light linen sweater for the plane, and a few shorts and t-shirts.
  2. Wherever I’m traveling I always have my Macbook, which is amazingly light and perfect for traveling, my Fujifilm X-E1, and a pair of over-ear headphones.
  3. I live in these Greats Royale sneakers, the most comfortable shoes ever, and I always bring a dressier shoe, like these Gucci loafers, just in case—though doubtful I’ll need them in Tulum.
  4. These two pairs of sunglasses have been my go-to for years now when traveling: Illesteva Murdochs and Ray-Ban Folding Wayfarers.
  5. My favorite scent when traveling is Le Labo Vetiver 46; woodsy and masculine but also light enough to wear all day.
  6. Blowfish for Hangovers. No comment needed.
