The Places We Return To: Provence

A day at the office might see Kelly Connor flying across the country for a private tour of Levi’s Denim Lab, and getting a custom pair fitted for the ride home. She’s the Market and Denim Editor at Vogue.com, where the market (and the denim) never sleeps. But every so often she sets off to escape with her family to a deeply personal place across the pond—here’s where.

My father and uncle built a home here about 40 years ago, and my family and I spend every summer sunning by the pool, watching the Tour de France pass by, and walking to the market for fresh French melons and baguettes. We go to Saint-Paul-de-Vence to visit the Fondation Maeght. I love indulging in our favorite dishes at La Colombe d’Or; they have a fabulous loup de mer and the lemon sorbet is a must. The restaurant is part of a charming hotel that houses some of the most beautiful original Picassos you’ve ever seen (he used to be a regular there). There are very few tourists in Tourrettes-Sur-Loup, and the locals are welcoming to home-owners. It’s a charming, lazy, and mellow place where you can really let go and just relax. I have no schedule while I’m there, so I completely unwind. I swear the scent of French lavender is intoxicating too. Happy days.
